Cocaine and Advil

This is just ridiculous. I know someone who refuses to take Advil or Tylenol because "they are not good for you". However, this person used to smoke pot on a regular basis and had a small stint with cocaine. This person says that cocaine is safer than Advil because besides its addictive nature cocaine is healthier for the body than Advil. What? Could this possibly be true? Anyhow this person finally took an Advil for a toothache and was extremely suprised at how well it worked.

That's insane. Now, there have been studies done to suggest harmful effects of ibuprofen, (it's illegal w/o a prescription in Europe, I belive), but neither tylenol nor advil contain that. Most likely this person is taking that story and making a blanket statement about all three. And how could someone think that an addictive drug is better for you than a nonaddictive one?!? That's just ridiculous! And this coming from a pot smoker, no less! ;-)

Advil is a brand name of ibuprofen...
check the bottle... unless its something different in europe. Ibuprofen is definitely hard on your liver, but then again so is cocaine.

Cocaine is highly addictive i agree, and preferring to use a an addictive illegal drug versus one you can pull off the shelf is a risky move. However, some people experience severe headaches that are difficult to treat. Cocaine has pain relieving properties that are instantaneous as well as effective. In fact, it is still used in dentist and doctor offices legally in many countries in the form of nasal drips. I can understand why someone may take it in a situation where pain is intense and other options arent working. But this is not an endorsement...

Beware of dosage!! Cocaine has side affects such as increased blood pressure, anxiety, among a few, so be careful. Drink lots of water, if you start to get dizzy its most likely because you are overheating. sit in a cold shower and take tylenol. Majority of deaths from cocaine are a direct result of sky rocketing blood pressure and heart rate, resulting in hyperthermia and cardiac arrest. Dont take if you have high blood pressure already.

The argument for the number of deaths due to cocaine vs advil is seriously flawed. The number of people who take off the shelf or over the counter medications is several times greater than the number of people who do illegal drugs. The number of people who have tried cocaine likely falls in the 5-10% range. Advil? Tylenol? Try closer to 98%. So of course there will be more accidental deaths due to them.

I do agree with the position that drugs should be legalized, controlled and taxed. taking the criminal element out of the drug business would be good for all. Taxes can go towards drug education and offsetting the burden on the medical system. Where there is demand, someone will supply. I'd rather like to know what that what i'm buying isn't cut with something dangerous. Government control would reduce drug related deaths by a large amount. Not to mention crime.
